Your metabolism is much like a fire, meaning that its ideal nutritional needs can vary greatly depending on circumstance. For example, every fire is different, depending much on the environment that is it within. Starting a fire when it is windy and rainy requires a very dry fuel source that will light easy and burn hot. Whereas on a drier calmer day, starting with the same fuel source would be beneficial to establish a fire using a greener slower burning source, but sticking with a drier source would require a lot more fuel and effort on your part. From a metabolism standpoint, your body chemistry and activity are the two primary factors that determine the ideal fuel source for you. Using the analogy above, Carbohydrates would be represented by the drier, hotter fuel source. they are very easy to utilize for energy and produce energy quickly, but they do not last long. This requires a constant feeding to supply sufficient energy for the average person. However, for some, they are the ideal fuel source most of the time. For most however, Fat, which is equivocal to the greener fuel source, is more appropriate. Fat, like the greener source, still needs something fast burning to get it started and up to ideal “heat”. The body prefers to use carbohydrates for this purpose. The amount needed to optimize fat’s use as a fuel varies greatly from one person to another. However, when fat burning is optimized, gram for gram it produces about 10 times the energy as carbohydrates and it releases this energy for a longer period of time. Meaning, that you need less food and have more energy, in addition to leaning down and putting on muscle. Several studies have also demonstrated that it helps to idealize blood sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure reducing your chronic risk for several diseases.
